A Modernist That Never Went Out of Style

The house runs on natural light. Clerestory windows and skylights shift the mood hour by hour, and the Italian cork floors go warm underfoot by late afternoon. The living room makes the case on its own: sculptural fireplace, original built-in bench seating, not one bad angle anywhere. Then come the second-walkthrough discoveries: a hidden wet bar, a library with a rolling ladder, and a kitchen that sits in the middle of everything instead of down a hall. A bold call in 1972 and a layout everyone’s been copying since.
Outside
From the deck, it’s Universal City and the San Fernando Valley below, the Verdugo Mountains behind, and then you turn east and there’s the Hollywood Sign and Griffith Observatory, just out there. Notice what’s missing: no infinity edge, none of the add-ons a hillside house is supposed to want. A lawn for the everyday, a rear patio for long dinners under a lemon tree that actually produces, which anyone who‘s owned a decorative one will appreciate. Past that it’s canyon, birdsong, and a quiet you’d normally have to drive twenty minutes to find.
The O' Factor
Fifty years is long enough for most houses to get corrected. Walls come down, kitchens move, the interesting flooring gets swapped for something safer. What we keep coming back to is that in fifty years, nobody “fixed” this one. It decided what it was in 1972 and hasn’t asked for a second opinion since. Everyone else on the ridge is still chasing the view. This house just lives with it.
